Jorge Rueda Landeros, a long-sought fugitive on the FBI’s most wanted list, has been apprehended in Guadalajara, Mexico, in connection to a 12-year-old homicide case.
The investigation dates back to 2010 when Sue Marcum was discovered deceased in her home’s basement, leading authorities to name Landeros as the prime suspect.
What makes the arrest intriguing is that the suspect, now known as León Ferrara, had seamlessly transitioned into a new identity, operating a yoga studio in western Mexico.
Evidence also emerged of Landeros leading yoga classes, which attracted a substantial following, seemingly a far cry from his fugitive status.
He is now confronted with charges of first-degree murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
During an interview with El Pais following his arrest, Landeros vehemently professed his innocence:
“I am innocent… not of everything, obviously, but of what I’m being accused of.
“Once I disappeared from the radar, I completely forgot about the investigation.
“I still have difficulty responding to the name Jorge – I hardly have any of him inside of me anymore.”
As a dual citizen of the US and Mexico, Landeros currently awaits extradition to the United States.
