A special remembrance prayer was held on Friday by Mrs Wosilat Okoya-Seriki, wife of the late Chief Ademola Seriki, former Minister of State for Defence and Ambassador to Spain, along with their children. The event took place at the Island Club’s Peacock Hall in Onikan, Lagos, and was led by the Imams of Lagos Central Mosque.
The prayer was attended by associates of the late ambassador, former Senator Lagos West, Gbenga Asafa, Mutiu Aare, Tunde Salau, Wosilat Okoya-Seriki, Shade Okoya, representatives of the Oba of Lagos, and the deceased family members including his children, Abisola Dejonwo, Faridah Demola-Seriki, and Alimah Araoye.
Dr Saheed Timehin, a Guest Lecturer and Associate Professor at Lagos State University, delivered a message emphasizing the importance of good deeds, stating that it is the only thing that will be remembered after death.
Reflecting on the life of Ambassador Ademola Rasaq Seriki, Dr Saheed Timehin said, “We are gathered here today to pray for him because of the good and fulfilled life that he lived. May Allah continue to repose his soul in Al-Jannah Al-Firdaus.”
In her address, Mrs Okoya-Seriki described the past 365 days without her husband as challenging.
Friends and political associates, while sharing their goodwill messages, described the late ambassador as a good and selfless man.
A former associate, Aare, spoke about Seriki’s encouragement of good deeds among friends, emphasizing his role as a positive influence.
Senator Asefa also shared fond memories, saying, “Seriki had a charming personality, and his love for family was evident. He was a great family man who prioritized his children’s welfare.”
Seriki passed away in Madrid, Spain, while in active service on December 15, 2022, at the age of 63.
