In 2023, the Zonal Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, disclosed that a total of 604 deaths occurred in 1,196 road crashes in Osun, Oyo, and Ondo States between January and December.
The FRSC Zonal Commander in charge of Osun, Oyo, and Ondo States, Meshach Jatau, revealed this information during an interview with journalists in Osogbo on Friday.
According to Jatau, a total of 3,266 people were injured in road accidents in the three states during the specified period and 7,833 people were involved in these accidents, with 3,963 being rescued.
Jatau also mentioned that the Command intercepted 72,388 drivers for various traffic rule violations in 2023.
He further stated, “We apprehended 72,388 motorists in 2023 and educated about 40,338 within the 12-month review period.”
He assured that the Corps would continue to fulfill its responsibility of maintaining safe highways. “The FRSC in the zone will ensure that improved driving habits lead to safer highways in the country,” Jatau added.
The FRSC boss also urged corps personnel to execute their duties professionally to avoid posing a security nuisance on the highways.
“The corps will persist in strategizing with transport stakeholders to ensure highway safety,” he concluded.
