Group petitions IGP over burning of burial site, disruption of cleric’s burial [PHOTOS]

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has been petitioned by the human rights group, Save The Poor and Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI), over the alleged burning of the burial site of Prophet Joseph Odeyemi Eyinafe Bojesomo. The group is urging the IGP to investigate the incident along with the disruption of the burial of the cleric.

It has been reported that Bojesomo, who passed away in June, was the spiritual head of Orioke Agbara Emimimo in Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State. The family had made arrangements to bury the cleric within the church premises between the 13th and 14th of December 2023.

In a petition addressed to the IGP and disclosed by SPANCI President, Dr. Yemi Ezekiel Bello, it was alleged that certain individuals opposed the burial within the church premises and proceeded to burn the burial site while also disrupting the burial proceedings. Destruction of buildings and materials worth millions of naira was also claimed in the petition.

The group expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the matter by the Osun State Police Command and accused them of negligence and conspiracy with local authorities to perpetuate the crime. They stressed the importance of providing maximum security for the safety of those involved in the burial.

SPANCI stated that the police from Ijebujesha and Osun State command lacked jurisdiction to arrest anybody from Efon Alaaye and pointed out that the prayer mountain is not in Osun State. As a result, they directed the petition to the AIG. Additionally, they asserted that the burial of the late Bojesomo did not take place on the mountain due to interference from local authorities and their thugs, leading the family to bury their father elsewhere in Efon.

The group appealed for an investigation and the arrest of the perpetrators in response to the incidents.
