Robert Kelly Slater, popularly known as the Michael Jordan of Surfing, was born in Florida on February 11, 1972. He is the second child of Stephen Slater and Judy Moriarity. They have two other sons, Stephen and Sean Slater. The infamous surfer grew up in Cocoa Beach, Florida, where his father owned and operated a bait and tackle store very close to the ocean. As a child, every day he went to the sea in search of big waves. This would normally happen after school. Sometimes he managed to do some surfing before getting ready for school.
Finally, the budding surfer’s hard work and dedication paid off and by the time he hit his teens, the rising star had already become popular as one of the best surfers of the time. Eventually, the surfing expert hired an agent and in 1992, just turning 20, Slater captured his first world title, earning him a reputation as a the youngest surfer to ever win the championship. In addition to surfing, the Kelly Slater formed the musical group known as The Surfers with the collaboration of friends and professional surfers, Peter King and Rob Machado. Their album titled “Songs from the Pipe” was released in 1998.
Kelly is also a proficient actor and is also into film production. He has several films to his credit, some of which include Bra Boys and Bas du tonneau which he produced in 2007, L’ultime vague Tahiti which premiered in 2010, and Waveriders which was released in 2008.
