LeGarrette Blount’s biography
His birth name is LeGarrette Montez Blount and his parents are Gary (father) and Barbara (mother) Blount. He was born on December 5, 1988 and they lived in Tampa, Florida. In high school, he was a multi-athlete, being active in both track and field. He was the college football team that ran back and made the starting lineup with the record three-time 1000-yard rusher for four years. Blount hit a 1,000-yard mark in his sophomore year of high school and repeated it the following season. He also competed in athletic events such as the 100 meter race, shot put and long jump and was also a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay.
Blount subsequently surpassed his 1,000-yard mark for two years as a collegiate football player at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba (a junior college where he did not receive a scholarship due to poor academic performance). He received 376 carries for 2,292 yards and 18 touchdowns. In his sophomore year, he soon established himself as the top-ranked junior college student. After bursting into the college football spotlight, he was soon being hounded by interested universities for a football scholarship, eventually being accepted for the University of Oregon Ducks in December 2007 on Pitch. Both were instrumental in two wins against Washington State Cougars and Oregon State Beavers this season.
LeGarrette Blount’s football career was initially fraught with problems. He clashed with his team coach several times for missing mandatory practice, earning him a brief suspension. One issue that nearly cost him his career was his fallout with a Boise State defenseman Byron Hout, whom he punched after the latter made a provocative statement. Blount was banned from the game and had another face with the Boise fans on the way out. Video footage of the incident went viral and Blount was handed a ban that nearly ended his 2009 season, despite a later apology. The suspension ended October 1, but he did not play in a game until the final game of the season against Oregon State rivals, the Beavers. Blount came on as a replacement for LaMichael James and hit a run of 12 yards. His team won the game 37-33.
LeGarrette Blount dropped out of college and joined the NFL as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans, but was later selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the 2010 season began. He was the leading rookie of the season, covering 1,007 meters. Loaned to the New England Patriots three seasons later, he was signed officially in 2014 and contributed immensely to the team’s AFC championship game with an impressive 148 yards and three touchdowns. He ran for 40 yards and helped his team earn a win over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX.He signed a one-year contract with PhiladelphiaEagles in May 2017 and there he played in his second Super Bowl game, scoring 3 touchdowns while running for 766 yards. His great form helped the Eagles win their first title against his former team – New England Patriots. The game ended 41-33 in favor of the Philadelphia Eagles.
In April 2018, he relocated to Detroit to play with the Lions on a one-year contract.
