There has been a noteworthy change in the age of Tottenham winger Son Heung-min, as South Korea has adopted a new approach to calculate age.
The adjustment, which came into effect on June 28, resulted from the passing of a law in December. The initiative for this change was led by the newly elected Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol.
Previously, the traditional age calculation in Korea included considering the gestation period for all newborns, leading to them being counted as one-year-old at birth. Furthermore, everyone’s age incremented on January 1, irrespective of their actual birth month.
It’s important to note that while Son’s age will be altered in South Korea, it will remain unchanged in the UK, where he has been following the international age counting method since his move to England.
Son, who was born on July 8, 1992, has consistently been recognized as a 30-year-old by the international standard. This means that his registration and age details at Tottenham will remain unaffected, as the club only requires an accurate date of birth.
