Labour Party appeals Kano Court judgement nullifying Alex Otti?s candidature

The Labour Party has lodged an appeal against the Kano Federal High Court’s decision to nullify the candidacy of Abia State governor-elect, Alex Otti, in the March 18 governorship election.

It is recalled that Otti’s candidacy was nullified due to a lawsuit filed by Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim against the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission. The verdict was based on the Labour Party’s failure to comply with the requirements outlined in the 2022 electoral act and their inability to submit their membership register to INEC at least 30 days before the primaries.

The Labour Party’s legal representative, Umeh Kalu, SAN, has stated that they filed the appeal on May 22 to overturn the trial court’s decision.
