Not all music groups stay relevant for too long Over the course of their career, the Backstreet Boys have managed to not only stay active but also top the charts, even after spending more than two decades in the music scene. Also known as BSB, they are a five-member vocal harmony group including; AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson, Nick Carter and Howie Dorough. The group which was officially formed in 1993 in Florida has released nine studio albums, three compilation albums and one live album. Who are the members of Backstreet Boys and how old are they?
1. Alexander James McLean
Alexander James McLean who goes by the stage name AJ McLean was born in West Palm Beach, Florida to parents, Bob McLean and Denise (née Fernandez) on January 9, 1978. He happens to be the only child of his parents, due to the death of her twin sister during childbirth.. More so, he was practically raised by his mother and grandparents as his parents divorced when he was four years old. At the age of thirteen, AJ auditioned for a talent hunt show called “Star Search ” unfortunately he was not selected.
Since Alexander had Latin roots through his grandfather, he decided to audition for a Latin festival he saw in a newspaper and luckily for him he came out on top of the event with a prize of $1,000 to accompany it. It was during this Latin festival that he met band member Howie Dorough.
Again in March 1992, after coming across a newspaper ad looking for boys between the ages of 16 and 19 for a boy band. Although AJ was 14 at the time, his impressive performance at the audition saw him selected and he officially became the very first member of the Backstreet Boys. Interestingly, at the time he was selected to be part of the group, he was still a student in high school, but with the help of a tutor down the road, he was able to graduate. Next to music AJ McLean is an actor, dancer and model.
2. Howie Dorough
Howard Dwaine Dorough was born in Orlando, Florida, United States on August 22, 1973. His father, Hoke Dwaine Dorough (1938–2008),was an Irish-American while his mother, Paula Flores, was from Puerto Rico . His love for music was evident from an early age of three and he soon joined the choir at the age of seven where he sang during mass in church. Once he finished with Edgewater High School (top ten in his class), he auditioned to be in the Backstreet Boys, but officials lost his touch. Fortunately, after six months, he was contacted, thanks to AJ whom he had already met during a talent hunt contest. Howard is a graduate of Valencia College, a school he attended with former NSYNC member Chris. Dwaine Dorough is also a songwriter and actor.
3. Nick Carter
Nickolas Gene Carter was born on December 28, 1980. He has two younger siblings who are both musicians, named Aaron Carter and Leslie Carter. Nick’s childhood was quite tumultuous, but his passion for the performing arts carried him through the tough times. In 1992, at the age of 12, he performed at the New Hour original amateur show. That same year, he auditioned for The Backstreet Boys as well as a spot on Disney ‘s The Mickey Mouse Club. He was chosen for both but he had to choose one.
Although his mother wanted him to go with The Mickey Mouse Club, which offered a $50,000 contract with an easy stay in school, opted to go with the Backstreet Boys, becoming the youngest member of the group. boys at just 13 years old. Also, to keep up with his academics, a personal tutor was hired for him. 4. Brian Littrell
Brian Thomas Littrell was born to parents, HaroldBaker Littrell, Jr., and Jackie (née Fox) on February 20, 1975, in Lexington, Kentucky. He has an older brother named Harold Littrell and a cousin Kevin Richardson, another Backstreet Boys member. As a young boy, Brian was one player at a timethe Babe Ruth League and the Little League.
On April 19, 1993, when Brian Littrell was still a high school student, his cousin Kevin called him when he was in history class and told him about an opening slot for the Backstreet Boys. Brain had to travel to Orlando the next day and was officially signed to the band.
He also has a personal album named Welcome Home which was released in 2006. Interestingly, five of his singles reached the US top 20. Christian cards.
5. Kevin Richardson
Kevin Scott Richardson was born in Lexington, Kentucky on October 3, 1971. His father, Jerald Wayne Richardson, Sr., worked as an outdoorsman and handyman while his mother, Ann C. (née Littrell), was a homemaker. foyer. Kevin Richardson auditioned for a spot in the Backstreet Boys band in 1993. Once accepted, he called his cousin Brian (Kevin’s mother and father are siblings) for an audition. As soon as Brian was auditioned, he was also cast and the band took shape from that point on. On April 10, 2015, Kevin Richardson and his cousin Brian Littrell were inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame.

Where are the Backstreet Boys Now?
To this day, the Backstreet Boys remain one of the best selling musical groups of all time with over one hundred billion albums sold. They are still very present in the musical scene because they often play in their musical. More so, the group recently released a new album in 2019 which they titled DNA.
