Senior Advocates of Nigeria urge lawyers to cease attacking judiciary

Renowned Senior Advocates of Nigeria have expressed their dismay over the recent onslaught against the judiciary. Speaking separately with NewsNow on Sunday, these SANs attributed the attacks to politicians and lawyers who failed to present their cases effectively.

Kayode Ajulo, SAN, highlighted the surge in attacks on the judiciary during election periods and emphasized the judiciary’s adherence to the law in the face of such criticism, citing the case of naira redesign as an example.

Yusuf Ali, SAN, stated that those behind the attacks on the judiciary have personal vendettas and lack evidence to substantiate their claims. He emphasized the need for the judiciary to introspect on the increasing allegations.

Adegoke Rasheed, SAN, called for an investigation into judges living opulent lifestyles and raised concerns about lawyers facilitating bribes to corrupt judges, along with the complicity of politicians in such acts.

Similarly, Prof. Sam Erugo addressed the misconceptions leading to criticisms of the apex court and highlighted the challenges faced in obtaining evidence due to the electoral umpire’s non-compliance with the law.

Prof. Edoba Omoregie called for a more restrained approach in criticizing the court, particularly within the legal profession, while acknowledging that laypeople may do so out of ignorance.
