It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brazilian singer, Darlyn Morais, due to complications from a spider bite to his face.
On October 31, Morais was bitten by a spider at his home in the northeastern city of Miranorte, which led to his deteriorating health. Tragically, his 18-year-old stepdaughter also suffered a spider bite and is currently hospitalized but in stable condition, as reported by Morais’ wife, Jhullyenny Lisboa to the Brazilian news outlet G1.
Lisboa shared that Morais began experiencing fatigue and observed changes in the color of the bruise on his face following the spider bite.
Later in the week, Morais developed allergic reactions and sought medical attention at a hospital in Miranorte. He was treated and discharged on Friday.
‘He felt weakness in his body and his face started to darken on the same day (October 31),’ Lisboa said. ‘He went to the hospital and was admitted to Palmas General Hospital this Sunday.’
Morais was known for singing forró, a popular music genre in Brazil’s northeast region that incorporates the accordion, zabumba, and metal triangle.
His small, three-man band consisted of his brother and a friend.
‘He was always surrounded by friends and it was always a reason to celebrate for him,’ his cousin, Wesleya Silva, told G1. ‘Always very happy and smiling with everyone around him. Owner of a giant heart, always helping the people around him.’
Morais, who had a six-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son with his wife, had plans for a live show in January 2024 that was intended to be recorded and released on DVD, according to his friend, Samuel Zhytor, as reported by G1.
‘He was always very loved here in the region,’ Zhytor said. ‘He always gave me a lot of opportunities inside and outside the state.’
